HUBO grew out of KAIST’s KHR humanoid series and became South Korea’s best-known bipedal research platform. Albert HUBO and later DRC-HUBO cemented the line’s reputation beyond the lab.
A university research platform for bipedal locomotion, human-scale manipulation, and public demonstration of Korean humanoid capability.
Albert HUBO combined a HUBO body with an Einstein animatronic head. DRC-HUBO won the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals for Team KAIST.
Hubo Lab iterated walking, manipulation, and perception across generations, culminating in competition-hardened DRC variants designed for disaster-response tasks.
HUBO-line research continues to inform Korean humanoid and industrial robotics programs; the platform remains a landmark in bipedal robotics history.
